Hair Color FAQs

There are so many hair highlighting techniques, how do I pick one?

Between highlights, balayage, foilayage, teasy lights, babylights, air touch, there is a style for everyone! At Ivy, we often use a combination of these techniques on our clients to achieve the perfect color. For example, foilayage plus face-framed babylights gives overall dimension but seamless blonde around your face. We can help you decide the right one for you by understanding your desired look and level of maintenance.

Should I get teasy lights or babylights, what’s the difference?

Teasy lights are a technique we use to tease the hair closest to the root, using fine sections of hair for a more seamless blend. Teasy lights are the lowest maintenance option since outgrowth is less defined and clients can go 4+ months between highlights. Babylights, on the other hand are for more higher-maintenance blondes giving maximum lift with subtle depth for a seamless look. Touch ups typically 8-12 weeks.

Do I need a partial or full highlight, what’s the difference?

A partial highlight will give you brightened sections of hair placed around your face and crown. A full highlight places highlights throughout your hair. At Ivy, we typically rotate between full and partial every other visit.

How often can I get my hair highlighted?

Healthy hair is always our top priority. Ideally 8-12 weeks between highlights, will give the hair time to grow with the least amount of overlap with bleach, leading to less breakage and a happy, healthy blonde!

What shade of blonde is right for me?

Every blonde at Ivy is a custom mixed color. There isn’t one shade of blonde for all. Ivy stylists listen, look at your ideal photos and match the right shade to best complement your lifestyle, complexion and desired level of maintenance. At Ivy, understanding color theory amidst all the variables with each client, is the key to blending the perfect color!
